This is not the first website ever

But here's a short story about it!

The World Wide Web
was invented in 1989
by British scientist Tim Berners-Lee
while working at CERN

It was originally developed for
automated information sharing
between scientists around the world.

By Christmas of 1990,
Berners-Lee had built all the tools
necessary for a working Web.

6 of August 1991

The first website ever went live!

The site provided an explanation of
what the World Wide Web was,
how people could use a browser
and how to create their own website.

Three decades later,
the web has transformed
the way we live.

  • There are more than 1.7 billion websites online at the moment.
  • Around 500,000 new websites are created per day.
  • The second quarter of 2020 closed with 370.1 million domain name registrations. Across all top-level domains.
